Charlie Marshall

Charlie Marshall plays 2 sets from 4.30pm

Solo voice and guitar acoustic and electric

Songs of The Body Electric, life, the universe, everything

Charlie Marshall is a singer songwriter from Melbourne with a long history. He plays guitar. His songs are poetic, romantic meditations on life, love, science, philosophy and the universe. His singing is soulful and passionate. His performance can build from an intimate whisper to a storm of intensity with the turn of a phrase. His guitar style is rhythmic, with chords you don’t hear all that often. He stomps his foot a lot when he plays. He puts all these things together in finely crafted, inspiring songs that range from gorgeous acoustic ballads to chiming rock and roll electric guitar bliss.

Charlie’s songs have attracted many of Melbourne’s finest musicians over the years. He started songwriting with brother Chris in Harem Scarem, the punk blues band loved by many in the 1980’s that included Chris Wilson and Barry Palmer (Hunters and Collectors) in it’s stellar lineup. He formed The Body Electric in the 90s with Jim White and Warren Ellis from the Dirty Three and Brian Hooper (Beasts of Bourbon). Later lineups included members of the Avalanches, Silver Ray, Moodists and Dumb Earth. He has released six albums solo and with Body Electric.

This solo show will combine the old and new. Previewing songs from the forthcoming album ‘Sublime - songs of metaphysics, science and ecology’ along with Body Electric classics from the soon to be released retrospective ‘Charlie Marshall and the Body Electric - Won’t give up’.
