Strathmore Secondary College has an extensive music program. As well as a high quality “classical” program, which consists of a Symphony Orchestra, a Concert Band, a Classical Guitar Orchestra and numerous instrument specific ensembles, there is a great “jazz” program.

This program features two Big Bands. The music department at Strathmore have wanted to give the students in these Big Bands a “real life” performance opportunity in a “real life” venue. This is where the Post Office Hotel with its reputation for live gigs, great food and great atmosphere comes in! This year will be our fifth year performing at the Post Office Hotel.

On Thursday September 19 th the Strathmore M1 and D13 Big Bands, both named after their original rehearsal rooms at school, will perform. The D13 Big Band consists of students from years 7-11 who will play the first set on the night. Their set will feature jazz classics and blues tunes. The M1 Big Band will take care of the next two sets with an array of tunes from the swing and post swing eras.

Teachers and parents from Strathmore are invited to this night, along with anyone who has an interest in good Big Band music.
