Yawulyu - Maylene & Maurial

On the 19th of March 2020, the Barpirdhila Foundation will host the Sixth Yawulyu gig – a series of live shows, at The Post Office Hotel. Featuring Maylene & Maurial. Yawulyu is a culturally safe place for Aboriginal women, girls, non-binary and trans people to explore live performance, with a focus on emerging artists. Yawulyu (also pronounced Walagee) is derived from the Walpiri language meaning women’s ceremony, women’s design, women’s songs. Our line-up is comprised of strong black women, girls, non-binary, and trans people, who come together to showcase their music through live performances. The Barpidhila Foundation supports emerging and non-emerging artist within the music industry and helps create a platform for Indigenous people to thrive and continue work within the industry.

This event will be on the land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation and in support of Aboriginal women’s strength and resilience all over Australia. We would like to pay our respects to the Wurundjeri of the Kulin nation the traditional custodians of the land and acknowledge their sovereignty was never ceded.
