n 1978 The Fiction were one of the handful of bands on the emerging Melbourne, Australia punk /new wave scene. The songs were fast high energy pop punk looking towards bands like the Undertones and Buzzcocks with a dash of the Saints.
40 years later Mick Baty from Off The Hip heard a rehearsal tape of the Fiction recorded in early 78 before the band had even played a gig and loved it. He subsequently released it as the NEGATIVE FUN album.
Rob Griffiths and Rob Wellington formed the new Fiction to launch the album. Along with Adam Learner on bass (ex Blue Ruin) and Alan Murphy on drums they stormed the Melbourne scene. It was so much fun they decided to record a brand new Fiction album which would kick off where they left off.
40 years since the first legendary recording The Fiction went into Rob Wellington’s studio and recorded their first real album. Ramona had 10 pop punk gems. With the addition of Rusty Tulek on second guitar they toured Japan.
The Fiction began recording their third album to be released early 2023. This will preceded by the single Almost Dead In Hollywood/La Dolce Vita due for release in December 2022.
