JP Shilo & “Friends” play two sets Sunday 7/9 (Fathers Day) & Sunday 14/9 from 4.30pm
J.P. Shilo first appeared on the scene in the 90s with the now cult-like underground
instrumental outfit Hungry Ghosts. Quickly capturing the attention of the late Rowland S.
Howard who produced their first LP, they soon found themselves invited to the Sonic Youth
studios to record a follow up album entitled Alone, Alone.
In recent years, J.P. Shilo has been the “go-to” man for many solo artists looking for
something different to complement their music. A multi-instrumentalist who thinks outside
the box, he worked closely alongside Mick Harvey, on the Rowland S. Howard LP Pop
Crimes, as well as lending his skills to Adalita’s award-winning debut solo album, Amaya
Laucirica’s LPs Sway & Early Summer, and Mick Harvey’s most recent LPs, Sketches from the
Book of the Dead & FOUR (Acts of Love).
He has also been a member of The Blackeyed Susans for the last 8 years, and has just
finished a national tour with Rob Snarski in support of his Wounded Bird LP.
While many will look for easy comparisons, J.P. Shilo creates heart-stopping music without
a clear genre. Fragile in its minimalist beauty, yet able to suddenly burst open with stabbing
intensity.
