On the 6 th of December, the Barpirdhila Foundation will host the Second Yawulyu gig – a series of live shows, curated by Alice Skye at The Post Office, Coburg. Yawulyu is a culturally safe place for Aboriginal women, girls, non-binary and trans people to explore live performance, with a focus on emerging artists. Yawulyu (also pronounced Walagee) is derived from the Walpiri language meaning women’s ceremony, women’s design, women’s songs. Our line-up is comprised of strong black women who come together to showcase their music through live performances. This event will be on the land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation and in support of Aboriginal women’s strength and resilience all over Australia. We would like to pay our respects to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation the traditional custodians of the land and acknowledge their sovereignty was never ceded.
