Agus Batara Quartet

  • The Post Office Hotel 229-231 Sydney Rd Coburg, VIC, 3058 Australia (map)

Taking inspiration of the 50’s jazz ‘swing’ tradition to the 80’s ‘jazz-rock’ fusion, Agus Batara Quartet plays two-sets of Agus’s (pianist) originals fused with Lee’s (guitarist) warm electric-guitar melody. The quartet will feature Lee Jones (guitar), James Lockwood (double bass), James Osborne (drums) and Agus Batara (keys). Agus (band leader/composer) draws his musical style from his Indonesian heritage, classical up-bringing, jazz education influenced by Steve Sedergreen (AU) and Roland Perrin (UK).

The repertoires are eclectic from swing, waltz, samba, ballads and salsa reflecting Agus’s last decade of evolution in composing. This will take the audience along the journey of ever-changing soundtrack of instrumental landscape, rich harmonies with sophisticated improvisation. This casual and infrequent collaboration relies on the strength of individual musicianship in interpreting Agus’s original composition, capturing the subtlety, and ‘in the moment’ interactions between the musicians on the stage. They received a warm reception during their performances at the Edinburg Castle and more recently at the Inverloch Jazz Festival 2023.
